Captain Ron Teke has a wealth of
fishing experience. He has fished around the world including most of Florida,
Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Bahamas, Belize, Mexico, the Amazon in Brazil, Guatemala,
Virgin Islands and Venezuela. In the 1980’s Ron operated Alaska River Camps on the Talachulitna River, in a remote area of Alaska. Clients and gear all had to be
flown into camp by floatplane. Jet boats and airboats were used to navigate the
shallow and dangerous wilderness rivers. Anglers were mostly fly fishermen after
the five pacific salmon, rainbow trout, grayling, and dolly varden. Bear stories
and adventures of endless rain abound from those years.
During those same years as part of his business TekeTours, a wholesale fishing tour business was established with Mexicana Airlines. This offered big game saltwater fishing to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico’s Baja. Other destinations included Mazatlan, Loreto and Baja’s East Cape. Big marlin, sailfish, tuna, dorado (mahi-mahi) and wahoo. Bird hunting was also offered in Mexico’s Sonora and Yucatan regions.
Ron’s love affair with the Florida Keys started in 1993 when he purchased his first saltwater boat and vacationed with his family there. He realizes that the Keys offers more fishing opportunities and variety of fish than anywhere else in the world. We have it all here: offshore, inshore, bridges, reef, wrecks, bay and gulf. Ron and his wife Tania (who is a top angler in her own right and often serves a first mate) purchased a Key’s canal home in Key Colony Beach in 2001. The entire family including their two adult children are avid scuba divers and fish together often.
Captain Ron also has a wealth of emergency training having served 12 years as a volunteer firefighter/ EMT, five years in local government dive and swift water rescue group, and two years as a volunteer ambulance attendant.
Ron is also active in world class tournament big game fishing serving as an IGFA Certified Observer, traveling to exotic locations around the world.
